Who We Are
On a visit to India, I approached a young girl and asked her why she wasn’t in school. She told me she wanted to, but she had to take care of her baby brother while her mother worked.
The conversation made me realize how many challenges girls face before they can go to school. It’s not just a matter of finding the money for tuition. It’s also a matter of finding the time, but no girl can be spared from her daily chores if her family lives in poverty. The solution requires a holistic approach that addresses all the issues that prevent girls from earning an education.
I was determined to find a solution, and started reading everything I could about effective models of philanthropy. My journey led me to the Thar Desert, one of the poorest regions in India and an area where rates of female literacy are lowest. I founded OneProsper to develop cost-effective, sustainable ways of supporting girls to go to school and stay in school.
